Writing your own book
Storybook is also a tiny publishing house. Write a story in the app, or bring one you've prepared as a file — then add a cover, illustrations, and save it to your library.
You'll need to sign in. Writing saves to your private cloud library, so open the Me tab and sign in with your email first. It's a magic link — no password to remember.
Option A — write it in the app
- In the Me tab, tap Write a new book.
- Fill in the basics: title, author, an estimated reading time, a blurb, and a colour palette.
- Add scenes. Each scene has a name, a one-line summary, and an illustration "vibe" you pick from the built-in art.
- Inside each scene, add spreads — the pages. Type the narration lines (one paragraph per line) and, optionally, a character's dialogue.
- Press Save. Your book appears in your library straight away, ready to open and read.
Option B — import a file
If you've prepared a story as a .story.json file (by hand, or exported from another book), tap Import .story.json at the top of the New Book screen. It fills in the form for you to review, then you Save as usual.
Adding your own art
- Cover image — upload one in the basics section; it replaces the palette cover.
- Scene illustrations — upload an image per scene to override the built-in vibe art.
Images stay under 5 MB and are stored privately with your book.
Backing up & moving books
Open any book's cover and use Export to download it as a .story.json file. Keep it as a backup, edit it in a text editor, or re-import it later — export and import are exact mirrors of each other.
